Care and advice
The town council of Colmenar Viejo, in Madrid, has launched a new campaignto raise awareness and remind residents who own dogs and/or cats that they are required to identify their pets with a microchip and subsequently register them in the Animal Registry of the Community of Madrid and in the Municipal Registry of Domestic and Companion Animals.
As of October 11, 2017, the Municipal Registry had registered 1,908 dogs and 56 cats, pets that already have or will have, if their owners have not yet picked them up, a Colmenar ID card: dogs in the form of an identification tag and cats in the form of a feline card.

To collect the ID tag or ID card for your pet, you must go to the Department of Health, located in the Municipal Building of La Estación (C/ Carlos Aragón Cancela, 5). There, once the animal has been registered in the Municipal Registry, the dog owner or a person authorized by the owner will be given the tag and a voucher to take to the Kalikasan pet store (located at C/ Tinte, 14) to have it engraved. If the pet is a cat, bring a photograph of the cat to the Department of Health, where you will be given the cat's ID card.
The tag is made of aluminum and will be engraved with the dog's name, census number, the initials of the corresponding registry, and up to two contact telephone numbers for the owner and/or person responsible for the pet.

According to the new Madrid Regional Law, penalties for not having your pet microchipped and registered in the Madrid Regional Animal Registry range from €3,001 to €9,000.
