Let's talk about Porto

With around 1.7 million inhabitants, Porto is Portugal's second most important city and was voted the best European destination in 2017, making it a must-see when visiting our neighboring country.

Porto is a city of contrasts, as evidenced by the fact that its historic center was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1996, while at the same time it has the longest metro line in Portugal.

¡The right documents for traveling to Porto with your dog!

¿What documents do I need to bring for my dog? If you are traveling with your dog to Portugal, it is important that you comply with the established documentation requirements. Here are the necessary documents:

·Pet passport:

Your dog must have a pet passport issued by an authorized veterinarian. This document contains information about your dog's identity, rabies vaccination, and other relevant medical treatments.

Your dog must be vaccinated against rabies and at least 21 days must have passed since the date of the first vaccination. The vaccination must be valid at the time of travel.

How to get around Porto with a dog ¡Transportation options!

¡Good news! The Gaia cable car, one of the most popular means of transport among visitors, allows dogs on board. This tourist attraction offers you stunning views of the Douro River, the Dom Luís I Bridge, and the city of Porto.
If you are also traveling with children, the Gaia cable car is a good alternative to reach the Vila Nova de Gaia area, as you can enter the cabins without needing to fold the stroller - very convenient! Enjoy an exciting cable car ride and capture unforgettable moments like our buddy Jai in the photo!

Due to its hilly terrain, Porto has several modes of transport of this kind, such as the famous Funicular dos Guindais, which you will find on the other side of the Dom Luís I Bridge and connects one end of the Ribeira with the Batalha neighborhood, where Porto Cathedral is located. On the funicular, dogs are also welcome and you can enjoy a picturesque ride.

If you want to take your dog on the metro, you can do so, but inside a suitable carrier for them. Unfortunately, size matters! If your dog is large, you may encounter some restrictions due to limited space.
Buses are also an option for getting around the city. However, just like on the metro, your dog must travel in a carrier.
In the case of the historic Porto tram, known as the 'Eléctrico', it is a very popular means of transport in the city. For now, unfortunately, they only allow access for small and medium-sized dogs in a carrier.

If you need to use a taxi or private transport service, it is advisable to inform the driver in advance to ensure they are willing to take your dog. Some may accept it without issue, but it is better to be sure. Make sure your dog is comfortable and safe during the trip!
