Dog-Friendly Destinations

Hello, 4Pateros! Our canine companions Django and Blue have traveled 8 days along the coast of Portugal. If you are also planning to travel to Portugal with your dog, keep reading and take note of the suggestions, plans, and recommendations we are going to share below.

Where to stay?

We stayed at the Cabana GardenHouse Apartment in Loulé, 20 minutes from the center of Albufeira.
-Pets are allowed regardless of size and WITHOUT ANY ADDITIONAL CHARGE
-Dogs are allowed in ALL common areas, swimming pool, sun loungers, green areas, they can be in ALL areas, off the leash (just use common sense... pick up after them...)
-Free private parking for guests.
-Within the grounds there are different apartments to choose from with balconies next to the pool, with views of the sea, the mountains... -Apartments are about 18 square meters, so the living space is a bit limited. Since we have two large dogs, it might be a bit small... but overall, the apartment is more than enough.

BEACHES IN PORTUGAL TO VISIT WITH YOUR DOG

The list of beaches below are non-concession beaches. In other words, they are not officially dog beaches, but they are unguarded beaches that do not prohibit access to dogs.

People were very friendly with Django and Blue: they petted them, threw their toys into the water... They constantly stopped us to take photos of them. Even on the day we went paddleboarding, they asked us if they could film them, as they were amazed by how well they surfed on the board.

BEACHES ON THE COSTA VICENTINA

- Ocedeixe Beach - Arrifana Beach - Amado Beach - Bordeira Beach - Figueiras Beach - Barranquinho Beach: Highly recommended, it has caves where you can eat in the shade. - Pinhao Beach:

IMPORTANT: Check the tide beforehand, as at high tide it covers most of the beach, but otherwise it's GREAT! It's ideal for paddleboarding to the nearby coves.-Praia do Homem Nu
-Praia da Barra da Fuseta
-João de Arens Beach
-Praia do Carvalho: The entrance is through some caves, it's really cool!!!
-Praia das Furnas
-Barranco Beach

We traveled along the coast to the beaches mentioned above and can emphatically say that it was a highly recommended experience with no incidents during the trip. We also went kayaking. To do this, we had to go to a tourist beach that was not suitable for dogs, but even though it was August, they didn't give us any trouble, quite the contrary. Django and Blue also received their share of pampering and attention from the beachgoers.
You can see the videos on Instagram and contact us if you need additional information.

Where to eat with your dog in Portugal?

Dogs are welcome in most places and are usually given water when they enter. These are some of the restaurants we liked the most, both for their food and their treatment of Django and Blue.
-ANCORA Restaurant located in Albufeira Center (Great atmosphere...)
- LA CANTINA Restaurant located in Albufeira Center
-Burguers & Bowls located in Almancil.
-Ristorante Pizzeria S.Martino located in Almancil.

TRAVEL TIPS..

Before planning your vacation with your dog, remember to keep the following travel tips in mind:

1. Don't forget to travel with your dog's documentation in order: Vaccination card and passport if you are traveling outside of Spain.

2. On your walks and excursions, never forget to take water and food with you. One tip is to get your furry friend used to drinking and eating from a bottle. This way, you won't waste as much water and it won't take up as much space as a bowl! If you don't have a portable bottle, we recommend this one, which is 3x1 and you can get it at our Online Store.

3. Make sure your dog is protected against parasites and mosquitoes. We mustn't forget to take our furry friend's documentation with us and locate the nearest 24-hour vet in case of an emergency. If you are going to be away from home for more than one night, we recommend taking a travel bag for your dog. This way, you can keep all their documents and accessories organized and safe: food, towel, brush, favorite toy, treats, their bed, etc...

If your dog doesn't have its own travel bag yet and you'd like to get one, you can do so at our online store. It's ideal for storing and transporting their belongings and also comes with accessories included.
