Dog Beaches

Hello, 4Pateros! One thousand square meters in Gavà: this will be the first dog beach in the Llobregat Delta. The Gavà City Council has amended the ordinances on pet ownership and beach use with the aim of creating a section of Gavà beach that can be enjoyed by people with their dogs this summer.

This summer, Gavà beach will have an area of around 1,000 m2 for dogs. The area will be located on Les Marines beach, between Tamarit and Salou streets, and will be the first of its kind in the delta area.
The dog beach is scheduled to open in mid-July. The space will be open until September 11, Monday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The area will be shaped like an irregular trapezoid, approximately 50 meters long and 22 meters wide, with a capacity for 65 people and between 35 and 40 dogs.
This space will be equipped with a prefabricated module that will serve as an information point, control point, and access point to the beach. It will be separated from the rest of the beach by metal perimeter fences. It will also be equipped with a water connection to supply the shower and fountain for the exclusive use of dogs. To guarantee the quality of the space, specific analyses of the sand and bathing water will be carried out.

Rules of use

In order to access the designated dog area, a series of rules must be followed, as reported by the city council. Failure to comply with the regulations may result in the withdrawal of access.
Here are the rules for accessing the new dog beach:
In order to access the beach, your dog must be registered in the Municipal Pet Registry and must wear the registration tag on its leash.
The owner or accompanying person:
• Must provide proof of municipal registration by means of a registration tag and/or municipal registration card or file, not necessarily from Gavà.
• Must be of legal age and must take responsibility for the animal at all times, avoiding causing inconvenience to other users.
• They must prevent the animal from causing harm to people and/or other dogs, damaging furniture, or dirtying public spaces.
• They must pick up their dog's feces and dispose of it in the nearest trash can or waste container.
• You must wet the area where your dog has urinated with water.

There are specific regulations for potentially dangerous dogs to prevent any problems with other dogs and/or bathers. In this case:
• The pet must always be kept on a non-extendable leash that is less than two meters long.
• It must always wear a muzzle, including in the water.
• The owner must be of legal age, carry a municipal license, and may not walk more than one potentially dangerous dog.

According to the city council, to ensure harmonious coexistence between pets and beachgoers, it is necessary to follow a series of tips:

• The animal must be on a leash when entering and leaving the beach.
• Keep the dog on a leash or harness at all times to facilitate separation if necessary.
• It is prohibited to wash animals in public showers, with soap in the shower provided for dogs, and to feed animals on the beach.
• It is recommended to avoid the hours of maximum sun exposure.
• Ensure that your dog has water available to prevent dehydration.

SOME TIPS AND ADVICE FOR GOING TO THE BEACH..

If you go to the beach with your dog, don't forget to keep a few tips in mind:

-At the beach, don't forget to bring a sunshade for your dog, especially if it has white fur or a pink nose, as these are more susceptible to sunlight.

-On the other hand, it's very important to keep your dog well hydrated throughout the day. It is essential that we go to the beach with a portable water bowl and food bowl,a>which we will have to constantly refill with cool water so that the dog does not suffer from heatstroke.

-Before returning home, remove the sea salt with a shower so that their skin does not dry out.

-We also recommend carrying all your beach accessories in this dog bag. In it, you can store their water, food in a moisture-proof container that is included, towel, brush, leashes, treats, sunscreen, etc.
