Renfe expands its routes! Dogs weighing up to 40 kg can now travel on AVE trains to Madrid, Alicante, Valencia, and Malaga.

To be able to make the trip, it is essential to arrive 40 minutes in advance at the Renfe Service Center of the station to submit the responsible declaration, the vaccination card, and the insurance policy. 

Remember that before starting your trip, you will need to fill out and sign the responsible declaration and comply with the obligations of the service conditions.

Information for travelers with dogs traveling on AVE

• Allows dogs up to 40 kilos in weight.
• Available on certain AVE trains on the routes Madrid - Alicante, Madrid - Barcelona, Madrid - Málaga, Madrid - Valencia, and Madrid - Zaragoza. When purchasing your ticket, this option is marked with a triangle warning.
• Maximum 1 large dog per person (2 large dogs per train in a single car).
• The dog will travel in the adjacent seat without a carrier, attached to a non-extendable 1.5-meter leash and with a muzzle for walking through the station or during boarding and alighting from the train.
• Exclusive for Elige Estándar tickets. You can purchase your ticket online, up to 24 hours before the train departure, by adding the extra (35 €) at the time of ticket purchase.
• Seat selection is not allowed, as spaces for dogs up to 40 kilos are pre-assigned.

You will be given a travel kit (seat cover and mat that you must place on the floor of the interior seat next to the window), which you must pick up at least 40 minutes before boarding at the Service Center of your departure station. On other AVE, AVE International, Long Distance, Avant, and Medium Distance trains, dogs over 10 kilos are not allowed.
