Dog Beaches
The beaches of the Costa Brava are a delight for everyone. Two hundred and fourteen kilometers of coastline make up the Costa Brava. From Portbou to Blanes, you will find a mixture of beaches and coves with golden sand, rocky areas, cliffs, fishing villages, natural parks, crystal clear waters, marine fauna, history, culture, and Mediterranean cuisine. However, only nine of them legally accept dogs. Below, we show you where they are so that you can enjoy the company of your dogs on these wonderful beaches of the Costa Brava!
Rubina Beach (Empuriabrava)
It was the first dog-friendly beach in Catalonia and a pioneer in Spain. It is located between Empuriabrava and Roses. It is a very wide, family-friendly beach that offers all the amenities of a large beach.
L'Estartit Beach - Els Griells (L'Estartit)
This is a small section of beach designated for dogs, replacing La Platera beach, where dogs have been prohibited since 2016.
This dog area is located opposite Camping El Molino, and covers around 600 square meters. The beach has fine golden sand and moderate waves. This idyllic beach is located opposite the Las Islas Medas marine reserve.

Playa del Rec del Molí (L'Escala)
The first beach on the promenade leading to Sant Martí d’Empúries, a 5-minute walk from the center of L’Escala. Dogs are allowed on the middle section of the beach. It is a fine sandy beach with dunes, rocky landscapes, and abundant underwater fauna.
It is worth choosing the alternative route closer to the sea that leads to the Les Coves natural viewpoint. We recommend sitting on one of the benches in this area and letting yourself be seduced by the splendid views of L'Escala. This section of the beach allows dogs.

Sant Jordi Beach (Llançà)
A fairly large beach, 50 meters long and 10 meters wide, with fine sand and a very clean seabed that combines sand with some rocks on the surface, where you are sure to enjoy yourself with your furry friends! Ideal for lovers of tranquility and nature.

Las Barcas Beach (Colera)
Las Barcas dog beach is located in Colera, a small, beautiful town near the French border. It is part of the Cap de Creus natural area. The dog area is next to the port and the town center.
La Ribera Beach (Port de la Selva)
La Ribera Beach is located in the town center of El Port de la Selva, separated from the main beach by the Riera de Romanyac stream. It is mainly sand and stones, and it is notable for being a beach where dogs are allowed.
It has beautiful views of the bay and the port, and boats are often seen anchored in the water. From the entrance to the town, where the parking lot is on the left (coming from Llançà), to the stream. The two green signs will guide you.
Port de la Vall Beach (Port de la Selva)
Port de la Selva has two dog beaches. The Ribera beach, which we mentioned earlier, and this one, Port de la Vall Beach. It is located a couple of kilometers before reaching the town of Port de la Selva. The section is marked by green signs.
Cala del Niu (Sant Feliu de Guíxols)
Added as a dog-friendly beach in 2026, it is one of the most recent additions. It is a small rocky cove located between Cala Maset and Cala del Peix. It is surrounded by a beautiful landscape of Mediterranean pine forest. The cove allows access for approximately five dogs and is equipped with trash cans.
It can be accessed on foot from the Camino de Ronda, at the tunnel excavated into the rock. This is an artificial tunnel that is located under the garden of an apartment block. You can also get there by taking the Sant Feliu de Guíxols coast road to Sant Pol beach (km 633) and going down the stone steps that lead to the cove.
Pere Grau Beach (Palamós)
Pere Grau Beach is located between the lighthouse and the fishing port of Palamós. The beach is 15 meters long and 12 meters wide. Outside of the bathing season, you can also go with your dog to Gran de Palamós Beach.

Belladona Beach (Platja d'Aro and Calonge) - THIS BEACH HAS BEEN CLOSED
The Belladona Cove has been chosen to officially become the dog beach for the municipalities of Playa de Aro and Calonge. The space inaugurated in 2026 has a beach bar with specific services for pets such as a shower, a fountain, or a play area.
Unlike other municipalities that only enable a part of the beach for our furry friends to bathe or play, in this case both municipalities have chosen to dedicate its entirety to this use. Furthermore, it is worth noting that it is a safe space, away from traffic.

Tips and Advice for Going to the Beach..
If you go to the beach with your dog, don't forget to keep some tips in mind:
-At the beach, you can't forget to bring an umbrella for your dog, especially if it has white fur or a pink nose, as they are more sensitive to sunlight.
-On the other hand, it's very important to keep them well hydrated throughout the day. It's essential that we go to the beach with a portable water and food bowl, which we will need to constantly refill with fresh water so the dog doesn't suffer from heatstroke.
-Before going home, rinse off the sea salt with a shower to prevent their skin from drying out.
-We also recommend bringing all their beach accessories in this dog travel bag. In it, you can store their water, their food in an included moisture-proof container, towel, brush, leashes, treats, sunscreen, etc.
