Dog-Friendly Destinations

There is much more to see and visit in Andorra. More than 90% of Andorra's territory is made up of natural environments: lakes, mountains, three natural parks. The perfect place to unwind, discover charming villages, go hiking with your dog, or enjoy snow sports.

Our neighboring country is undoubtedly a great alternative for planning a vacation or getaway with your dog. Andorra is a very dog-friendly country, and we'll tell you what you need and where to stay or eat with your dog.

Documentation you need if you are traveling to Andorra with your dog!

The first thing you need to consider if you are thinking of traveling to Andorra with your pet is to make sure that it has the following documentation in order:

1. Be identified by a microchip.

2. Be properly vaccinated against rabies.

3. Have a 'Pet Passport'.
If you are traveling from a country outside the EU, you must also have a health certificate and pass a customs check when entering the European Union. If you are traveling with more than five animals, in addition to the above requirements, you will need an official health certificate called TRACES.

Hiking Routes with Dogs in Andorra!

Visiting Andorra with your pet is a perfect opportunity to take nature walks and discover wonderful landscapes with your dog. Andorra offers countless options. Today, we'll tell you about three excursions you'll love:

·Lake Montmalús

This route starts at the Grau Roig station, near the Els Llacs apartments. It is about 5 kilometers long with an elevation gain of 600 meters. You'll reach an altitude of 2,700 meters and enjoy one of the most beautiful views in Andorra of the Pessons glacial cirque. And when you arrive... a reward! Your dog can take a dip in the lake. Before starting the route, we recommend checking the weather forecast.

·The Iron Route

This one is easily accessible and very entertaining. The path is filled with sculptures and monuments dedicated to metallurgy, an important industry for Andorra until the late 19th century. It is located in the other valley in the parish of Ordino and runs mostly alongside a river. It's ideal for the whole family or for dogs not used to long walks.

·Route of Lake Engolasters

A must-stop when traveling with dogs in Andorra! You'll find this paradise just a 20-minute drive from Andorra La Vella. You'll feel so at ease that you won't want to leave!
The lake invites you to bring a picnic and a book in your backpack (or not, because there are elevated huts with books for your enjoyment), not to mention you can take the hiking route, where your dog will have a great time, especially if it loves water! To take this route, head to Encamp and search for 'parkin llac d'engolasters' on your phone's GPS. It's easy to find.

Other incredible plans to do in Andorra with a dog!

· Visit the Village of Auvinyà

The village of Auvinya is a surprising place that leaves no one indifferent. It is thirteen years old, yet it seems over five centuries old. In 2006, the owning family, the Fiter family, built it as a medieval village where more than 20 families live. It is a place where you will find medieval towers, Romanesque bridges, and furniture acquired from antique shops. Immerse yourself with your dog in its alleys and savor a unique medieval setting at every step.

· Village of Pal

Many do not know that here lies one of the most attractive and photogenic villages in Andorra. It is a quiet, peaceful place, ideal for disconnecting. Perfect for walking through with your dog. The most emblematic place to visit in the village of Pal is the Church of Saint Climent de Pal. You can enter it with your dog and explore the surroundings. It is one of the oldest buildings in the country.

· Historic Center of Andorra

Visiting the Historic Center of Andorra is a plan you cannot miss. During your visit, you can enter many shops and shopping centers with your pet without any problem.
Andorra la Vella is the highest capital in Europe. Its setting in the heart of the Pyrenees makes it one of the greenest and healthiest capitals in the world. Apart from its natural and scenic interest, the cultural and leisure offerings are more than enough reasons for you to come and discover this surprising city with your dog.

· Roc del Quer Viewpoint in Canillo

The Roc del Quer Viewpoint is one of those places you never forget. Panoramas that are etched into your retina forever and, in this case, are much more than that: it is an experience of being suspended in the air, as if the Pyrenees mountains embrace you. For this reason, and although it has been recently inaugurated, this viewpoint is already one of the most famous places in Canillo. An open and unbeatable place to understand the grandeur of our small country. Don't miss it!

If you want to stay in Canillo, we recommend these two hotels to stay with your dog: Hotel Segle XX  and Llop Gris

Here are some of our restaurant recommendations where dogs are welcome.

· Hotel L’Isard Restaurant

In addition to its excellent value for money, it serves breakfast, lunch, snacks, and dinner. It specializes in high mountain cuisine.

· Mama María Restaurant

Right in front of Hotel L’Isard, we find the Mama María restaurant. It's a pretty good option for eating out and bringing your dog. It has a special terrace for pets. The atmosphere is pleasant and family-friendly, but with just the right touch of luxury and comfort that modern buildings provide.

· Chef Amadeo Restaurant

If you want to enjoy spectacular rice dishes (paellas, baked rice, black rice, etc.) or delicious meats or fish.

· La Borda del Cremat

It offers a style of homemade and traditional cuisine. One of its specialties is grilled food, all cooked delicately over the fire in an atmosphere typical of a “borda” with original wooden beams, farm tools as decoration, and robust tables full of life and color.

· Restaurant Borda del Hortó

In this borda, you can taste the rich gastronomy of Andorra and traditional homemade à la carte cuisine.

· La Borda del Rector

Since 1968, the La Borda del Rector restaurant has served exquisite typical mountain dishes. They have a very extensive wine cellar. It is a fairly family-friendly and warm place, where you can come with your dog and even bring it into the dining room.

· L’Ovella Negra

L’Ovella Negra is located at the foot of the mountains and surrounded by nature. It has two completely different menus for summer or winter in Andorra, adapting to the climate and the harvest of the moment.
But that's not all! Through this restaurant finder, you can expand your search for dog-friendly places to eat with your dog in Andorra.

Essential things to bring on your trip!

· Don't forget to travel with your documents in order!

Vaccination record and passport, as mentioned earlier.

· On your walks and excursions, never forget to bring water and food!

A tip is to get our furry friend used to drinking and eating from a bottle — we won't waste as much water, and it won't take up as much space as a bowl!

· In winter, protect them from the cold!

It is very important to protect the paws and pads of our dogs with boots or sports shoes, if they are going to walk on snow. They are not only protection against the cold in winter, but also protect the paws on long walks on asphalt or rocky trails.
