Dog-friendly beaches in Puerto del Rosario

The Puerto del Rosario City Council has set up five specific areas where dogs are allowed all year round:

1. Puerto Lajas Beach (La Puntilla)
Located in Las Barretas, behind the chapel. It is a quiet area, but there are no services and access is not clearly marked.

2. El Charco Beach
Located in Punta de la Arena, north of the water treatment plant and near the old road to Puerto Lajas. Natural pool area, somewhat rocky and without fine sand.

3. Los Pozos Beach It is located at the mouth of the El Negrito ravine. It is a little-visited area, ideal if you are looking for peace and quiet, although it does not resemble a traditional beach.

4. Playa de Nido de Las Águilas (Eagle's Nest Beach)
Located at the mouth of the Barranquillo. Difficult to access, it is not highly recommended for families or dogs that are not used to walking on uneven terrain.

5. El Matorral Beach Located at the mouth of the La Muley ravine. Small and with a more wild than touristy appearance.

Although they are accessible, none of these beaches have specific services for dogs or clear signage. Bring everything you need and be respectful of the environment.

What to do if you are on an unauthorized beach?

Fuerteventura is full of wilder, quieter, and more secluded beaches and coves, where many people walk or enjoy themselves with their dogs without any problems. However, that does not mean it is legally permitted. If you decide to explore an unauthorized area, do so with respect and responsibility. Recommendations to avoid penalties. Although many beaches are not constantly monitored, we advise you to:

· Avoid urban and very crowded areas, especially in high season.

· Choose times when there are fewer people (early morning or late afternoon).

· Always keep your dog under control, preferably on a leash if there are other people or animals nearby.

· Pick up all of their waste, even if there are no trash cans nearby.

· If you see a prohibition sign, respect it, even if it seems like 'nothing will happen'.
